This month's image, Can you count the number of bacterial spheres? comes from Anukriti Mathur of the Man Group, in The Department of Immunology and Infectious Disease at JCSMR.
This SEM image shows two immune cells being attacked by Streptococcus pneumoniae. The immune cells underwent an inflammatory form of cell death called pyroptosis, releasing the bacteria outside for clearance by other fighter immune cells.
